🪔 Celebrating Bandi Chor Divas & Diwali: Light, Freedom, and Togetherness
As we enter this beautiful time of year, JAGS Property Group is proud to celebrate Bandi Chor Divas and Diwali, two significant occasions reminding us of the power of light, faith, and unity.
💫 What is Bandi Chor Divas?
Bandi Chor Divas, meaning “Day of Liberation”, is a very special day in Sikh history. It commemorates the release of the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, from imprisonment at Gwalior Fort in India.
However, this moment in history is about much more than just his own freedom. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji refused to leave the fort until 52 princes who were unjustly imprisoned alongside him were also freed. His compassion, courage, and unwavering sense of justice are powerful reminders of what true leadership looks like.
To this day, Sikhs around the world celebrate Bandi Chor Divas as a symbol of freedom, equality, and standing up for others values that continue to inspire kindness and community spirit far beyond the Sikh faith.
🕯️ The Festival of Lights: Diwali
Coinciding with Bandi Chor Divas is Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, a celebration that brings together families, friends, and communities to mark the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair.
Homes are decorated with diyas (oil lamps), delicious sweets are shared, and loved ones gather to celebrate joy, renewal, and gratitude. It’s a time to reflect on what truly matters love, kindness, and connection.

🎆 Gravesend’s Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara will be the center of celebrations for Bandi Chhor Diwas and Diwali on Tuesday, October 21.
The day features Kirtan, singing of Sikh hymns, and Katha, preaching about Sikh philosophy and history, from 10 am to 7.30 pm, followed by fireworks at 8 pm.
Visitors are asked to use nearby public car parks and walk to the Gurdwara to help ease congestion.
All are welcome to join the vibrant celebration of light and freedom.
